In 2002, ATCO Structures & Logistics Pty. Ltd in Australia was awarded the contract to design, manufacture and install a 2,500 person camp for the INCO Goro project in the South Province of New Caledonia.
The site location was remote and did not have site services such as power, water and electricity. Fierce environmental conditions would be a key factor in design and installation due to torrential rains.
This construction camp includes sleeping accommodations, dining, recreation, medical, laundry and administration facilities. Each building was designed to withstand torrential rain and blend in with the environment.
Manufacturing on INCO Goro commenced in the Brisbane and Townsville factories where about 400 modular units and over 200 knockdown units were manufactured. The units were then transported by sea to New Caledonia and installed by local contractors.
This facility, which has the capacity to increase to 3,600, accommodates construction workers for the Goro Nickel Mining Project. Inco Limited currently owns 85% of Goro Nickel. |
