ATCO Structures & Logistics was selected by V.K. Mason to design, fabricate and construct the administration building, the warehouse/maintenance building, the turbine hall, the auxiliary boiler building and the HRSG building including the following components:

  • A pre-engineered/structural steel hybrid
  • Acoustic building envelope
  • Two overhead cranes
  • EPDM roof
  • Man doors
  • Overhead doors
  • Windows
  • Lightning protection system
  • HVAC system: MUA units, gas lines and unit heaters, exhaust louvers complete with silencers
  • HVAC controls: automated handling system including hardware and software
Technical Information:
Major noise sources included:
  • One GE 7FA gas turbine generator package
  • One HRSG unit
  • One combustion exhaust stack
  • One steam turbine generator unit
  • Two auxiliary boilers
  • Two GSU transformers
  • All building HVAC equipment
  • Other ancillary equipment such as service pump
ASL guaranteed the power plant would meet noise requirements and it has been tested to the satisfaction of Kiewit Power Engineers.

Noise Target:
Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MOE) criteria applied. The A-weighted noise limit was 40 dBA at 168 meters. As well, ASL guaranteed acoustic performance at the facility in all octave bands from 16 Hz – 8000 Hz.
