ATCO Structures & Logistics’ unique experience with disaster relief has played a significant role during its current operations in Haiti.
As part of the Canadian Government’s relief efforts in response to the earthquake in Haiti in January 2010, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) contracted ASL to provide a temporary administrative base for the Haitian government.
The contract covers the procurement, transportation, installation, operation and maintenance of the complex for six months. ASL is responsible for setting up three office complexes in three different locations to support approximately 280 civil servants.
The project includes sites on the grounds of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Health, and the former United States Embassy site. Each is located in or near Port-Au Prince, Haiti’s capital city.
Each site will involve a secured, self-contained, flexible membrane structure with air-conditioners, portable toilets, desks and office supplies, primary and back-up power generators, the set up of computers and the establishment of internet service.
The structures located at the Ministry of Health and Agriculture will provide offices for 100 persons and one smaller structure for 82 persons with five hard walled structures accommodating the Minister of Health and his senior staff. Each structure has been designed to sustain 209 kilometre per hour winds, which would provide for Category 3 hurricane resistance.
