Operations Support - UQSUQ
Project Snapshot
UQSUQ Corporation is one of ATCO Structures & Logistics' premier joint venture projects, owned by the Nunavut Petroleum Corporation (representing the Nunasi Corporation and Qikiqtaaluk Corporation) and ASL. The partnership was created in 1996 when the Government of Nunavut (originally the Government of the Northwest Territories), awarded Uqsuq a 10-year contract to lease and operate the bulk fuel storage facility and pipeline distribution system at Iqaluit, Nunavut.
The UQSUQ contract was renewed by the Government of Nunavut, Petroleum Products Division for a further five years in 2007 and includes provision of bulk fuel distribution, complete airport refuelling operations, management of the annual tanker bulk fuel re-supply, continuous quality control, infrastructure maintenance, inventory and environmental management.
The Iqaluit tank farm has a capacity of 79 million litres and not only meets the refuelling needs for the airport, a critical refuelling stop for international flights crossing the North Atlantic, but also satisfies the needs of the community - which has a population of nearly 6,500. Uqsuq’s workforce consists of approximately 85 percent Inuit personnel and boasts 100 per cent local hiring.
