Albian Village is an award-winning multi-purpose permanent facility built to address a need to provide oil sands workers housing in a thriving economy. The facility consists of a central core building with management and craft worker accommodations for 2,460 people. The core facilities include a gymnasium, running track, workout facility, lecture hall, 1,100 person dining room, a recreation area complete with golf simulators and a 400 person lounge.
The dormitories are connected to the core building by elevated enclosed walkways, essential in Alberta’s north where winters can be harsh and reach lows of minus 30 degrees Celsius. All bedrooms include individual card key access. The 1,980 craft worker rooms come with flat screen LCD TV's, full internet and telephone connection in each room and 54 inch beds. Each craft worker room has a separate vanity, and shares a toilet and shower with one other bedroom.
The 480 management dorms come with individual bathrooms, queen size beds, sitting area and work space as well as a separate lounge and exercise facility. All rooms are carpeted and include special acoustical upgrades for sound insulation.
Integrated closed circuit televisions were installed with a 400 channel programming. High security measures were taken into consideration with hotel-style key scanning methods for each floor and individual rooms.
High efficiency furnace systems and heating and cooling systems were installed as well as low water usage plumbing. The combination of stick built and modular construction in the harsh conditions of northern Alberta utilized cost saving measures of factory construction and quality assurance from indoor factory work.
