Gas turbine exhausts produce high levels of noise together with hot turbulent gas flow. Designing turbine exhaust systems that meet the most stringent of noise regulations while surviving under the stresses of this environment is a specialty of ATCO Structures & Logistics (ASL).
ASL has installed over 500 Higgott-Kane™ gas turbine exhaust silencing systems worldwide. These systems are used on simple cycle, combined cycle and co-generation applications for power generation, natural gas compression, and offshore platforms worldwide.
Our exhaust systems reduce noise from gas turbines ranging in size from 1.5 MW to 265 MW. Our scope of supply includes:
- Higgott-Kane™ silencing systems
- Exhaust system ducting
- Exhaust stacks
- By-pass diverters
- SCR/CO catalysts
- Expansion joints
- Exhaust diffuser/plenums
The structural analysis program STAAD is used in the design of our exhaust system support structures. With the finite element program ANSYS, thermo-mechanical analysis of gas turbine exhaust systems is performed to evaluate structural integrity. Particular attention is paid to critical components - like acoustical baffle supports – to ensure survival under the high cyclic loading and thermal growth stresses seen in a gas turbine exhaust environment.

Reduce noise from gas turbine exhaust systems
Our in-house acoustic engineers have the experience to design for the critical noise limits associated with many new and retrofit exhaust system applications. Whether it is octave band guarantees, “A”- Weighted limits or “C”-Weighted limits, we have proven our ability to meet tight noise regulations. In particular ASL is highly regarded for our experience in mitigating low frequency noise from gas turbine exhaust systems.
