A gas turbine bypass system diverts gasses from the heat recovery steam generator in combined cycle mode to a stack with silencer assembly to operate in simple cycle mode. This enables operators to perform maintenance to the heat recovery steam generator, since when bypassing through the stack, the heat recovery steam generator can be completely isolated from the exhaust.
With our 3D modeling and finite element analysis, ASL engineers have designed and installed hundreds of bypass systems. Our reliable and robust designs take into account such critical areas as:
- Diverter blade and blade supports
- Diverter toggle drive systems
- Baffle support systems and silencing baffles
Using our in-house CFD modeling, we ensure that design limits for pressure drop, local velocity limits in critical silencer sections, and EPA non-cyclonic flow requirements are met. We can design a bypass system to meet your specifications so that you can operate your gas turbines safely. Our bypass system options include:
- Fully actuated diverter damper:
- To allow gas turbine operation during steam turbine trip
- Controlled ramp-up of steam cycle during combined cycle start-up
- Fast switching from combined to simple cycle
- Tee box with blanking plates: For one time or infrequent conversion to combined cycle
- Tee box with retrofit capability: Pre-designed for conversion into a diverter damper when future conversion to combined cycle may be a possibility
To bring you guaranteed noise compliance, we implement our Higgott-Kane™ silencing systems and carefully fine-tune system geometry to reduce turbulence and the noise associated with it.
